What we know about Leonida

The short version

GTA VI is set in Leonida, Rockstar's version of Florida, and it comes out on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There's no PC date yet. The main city is Vice City, Rockstar's Miami. Around it are five more named regions: the island chain of the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers wetlands, the run-down coast of Port Gellhorn, the refinery town of Ambrosia and the forests of Mount Kalaga National Park in the north.

How big is it?

Rockstar hasn't given a number. Estimates in the press put the playable area at about twice GTA V's map, and Leonida's landmass at around three times Red Dead Redemption 2's. Vice City alone is estimated at about twice the size of Los Santos. All of these are estimates from trailer footage. We'll measure it ourselves once we can drive it.

Inside Vice City

Three districts have names so far. Vice Beach is the beach strip. Stockyard is the arts district based on Wynwood, with murals by more than 50 street artists. Downtown is the high-rise core, where the Effluvia rooftop bar sits. It's a new city, not a remake of the 2002 map.

Where the story happens

• Jason works for drug runners in the Keys, for Brian Heder and his wife Lori. His friend Cal Hampton works for Brian too.
• Lucia starts the story in Leonida Penitentiary.
• Boobie Ike built legitimate businesses in Vice City, including the label Only Raw Records with Dre'Quan Priest. The duo Real Dimez is signed to it.
• Raul Bautista is a bank robber, and banks can be robbed.

Safehouses, shops and services

Safehouses work more like Red Dead Redemption 2's camps than the hideouts of older GTA games. Jason and Lucia share a home, other characters drop by, and personal vehicles are kept there. Nobody has confirmed whether you can buy property.

Confirmed so far: clothing stores, each with its own stock. Also salons and barbers, fences for stolen cars and jewellery, police impound lots and robbable convenience stores. Not shown yet: gun stores, car dealers and mod garages, airports and hospitals.

Things to do

The August 2026 extended look showed a long list: basketball, scuba diving, kayaking, airboats, jet skis, gyms, parachuting, pool, mini golf, a zoo, a strip club, fishing, three kinds of Racing (drag, stock car, dirt bike), backyard wrestling and an outdoor shooting range. An in-game TV ad hints at hunting. We file each one under the region where we expect it, but none has a confirmed location yet.

Getting around

The Ryde Me app works as a rideshare fast-travel option, and you can share taxis with strangers. Long bridges connect the Keys. Expect boats and airboats to matter more than in recent GTA games.
