Leonida's regions explained — the six areas Rockstar has named
Updated 2026-11-02
Leonida is GTA VI's fictional state, and it is Rockstar's take on Florida. When Trailer 2 went out on 6 May 2025, the official site named six regions. Below is each one: the real place it's widely reported to be based on, and what Rockstar has actually shown of it.
Nobody outside Rockstar knows where one region ends and the next begins, and the studio hasn't published coordinates. The outlines on our region pages are approximate until the game is out on 19 November.
Vice City
Vice City is the Miami analogue and the main city. The footage shows downtown high-rises, a beach strip, nightlife, crowded streets and narrow roads. Coverage puts the city at roughly twice the size of Los Santos from GTA V. That's an estimate. Rockstar hasn't given a number.
Three districts have names so far. Vice Beach is the beach strip. Stockyard is based on Miami's Wynwood and has murals by more than 50 street artists. Downtown is where the towers are, along with Effluvia, a rooftop bar seen in the August extended look.
Leonida Keys
The Leonida Keys are based on the Florida Keys: a string of islands joined by long roads and bridges. Two of the cast are tied to it by work. Jason works for local drug runners here, and Brian Heder has been running drugs through the Keys for a long time.
Grassrivers
Grassrivers is the Everglades stand-in. Rockstar showed wetlands, airboats and wildlife, alligators included. It's the clearest break from the city anywhere on the map.
Port Gellhorn
Port Gellhorn is a run-down stretch of coast, deliberately the opposite of postcard Florida. Reports link it to towns on the Gulf Coast and in the Panhandle. Beyond that description, little about it is confirmed, so expect our page to change a lot after launch.
Ambrosia
Ambrosia is an industrial and agricultural town. Reports say a sugar refinery dominates it, and bikers appear in trailer material that has been linked to the area. The reported inspiration is inland Florida, the farming and factory country away from the coast.
Mount Kalaga National Park
Mount Kalaga is wilderness in the north: forests, trails, outdoor sport and hunting country. The reported inspiration is northern Florida's forests and state parks. Where Grassrivers is water, Mount Kalaga is woodland.
What ties them together
Rockstar has said in previews that each region should feel distinct in its buildings, its people and its atmosphere. The extended look also showed a map HUD with buildings drawn in 3D, which should make it easier to tell regions apart at a glance.
Some named places don't sit in any confirmed region yet. The clearest example is Leonida Penitentiary, the prison Lucia walks out of at the start of Trailer 2. Its region hasn't been confirmed. Liberty City is where Lucia comes from, but it isn't part of Leonida, so it won't be on our map.
What we don't know yet
- Borders. Not confirmed anywhere.
- Size. No official figure, only estimates.
- Whether six is the full list. These are the regions Rockstar named. Smaller areas could show up at launch, and we'll add them when we've seen them.
Every region gets its own page with places sorted by status. The wider summary of what's known lives on the Leonida hub.
